Each mark is one minute

Forty-five minutes is a school period, a therapy hour, and a gym session. It is also where a lot of people end up once twenty-five starts feeling like it ends just as the work gets interesting.

What 45 minutes is good for

Deep work

Long enough to get past the shallow part of a problem and into the part worth doing.

A class period

The length most teaching is built around, for reasons that have held up.

A gym session

A full session including the parts people skip when nothing is counting.

Writing

Enough to draft something rather than just plan it.

Questions

Is 45 minutes better than a 25 minute pomodoro?

It depends on the work. Tasks with a long warm-up — writing, code, anything you have to hold in your head — usually suit longer blocks. Tasks you can pick up and put down suit shorter ones.

How long should the break be?

Ten to fifteen minutes. The break should scale with the block, which is why a five minute pause after forty-five rarely feels like enough.

Will it make a sound when it finishes?

Yes — an alarm rings when the countdown reaches zero. The countdown also turns red and the tab title changes to "Time's up", so the end is visible as well as audible.

Does the timer keep running if I switch tabs?

Yes. The countdown runs from a real timestamp rather than counting frames, so it stays accurate in a background tab, and the remaining time shows in the tab title.

The hard part isn’t the timer

This page counts down, and that is all it does. Porotimer handles the part that decides whether the session actually works.
