An hour you can actually see.

Each mark is one minute

An hour is the unit the rest of the day is already divided into, which makes it the easiest block to protect and by far the easiest one to lose. Putting a countdown on it is mostly about noticing where it went.

What an hour is good for

A protected hour

One task, no switching, with an end you can see coming.

Cooking and baking

The interval most slow recipes are written around.

Study

Long enough for a full topic, though most people want a break in the middle.

Screen-time limit

A cap on something that would otherwise decide for itself when to stop.

Questions

Should I take a break during the hour?

Most people should. Two twenty-five minute blocks or a 50/10 split will usually get more done than one unbroken hour, unless the work has a long warm-up.

Does it keep counting if my screen locks?

The countdown is measured against a real timestamp, so it stays correct while the tab is in the background. A locked or sleeping device may delay the alarm until you return to the page.

Will it make a sound when it finishes?

Yes — an alarm rings when the countdown reaches zero. The countdown also turns red and the tab title changes to "Time's up", so the end is visible as well as audible.

Does the timer keep running if I switch tabs?

Yes. The countdown runs from a real timestamp rather than counting frames, so it stays accurate in a background tab, and the remaining time shows in the tab title.

The hard part isn’t the timer

This page counts down, and that is all it does. Porotimer handles the part that decides whether the session actually works.
